How to Use Remote Start and Heated Steering in the 2025 Ram 1500
At Stivers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Prattville, Alabama, we help hundreds of Ram owners master their vehicle’s features every year. This guide walks you through everything you need to know about using the 2025 Ram 1500 remote start, whether you’re preheating your cabin on cold mornings or pre-cooling it during Alabama’s hot summers.
Remote Start Options in the 2025 Ram 1500
Your 2025 Ram 1500 gives you two ways to start remotely:
Key Fob Remote Start
- Works up to roughly 328 feet (100 meters) away
- No subscription needed
- Runs for 15 minutes per cycle
- Simple two-button press gets it going
Ram Connect App Remote Start
- Start from pretty much anywhere with cell service
- Pick your run time (10 or 15 minutes)
- Control heated seats, steering wheel, and defroster
- Grab it from the App Store or Google Play
Both options deliver the same payoff: you walk into a truck that’s already at the temperature you want.
How to Start Your 2025 Ram 1500 with the Key Fob
Find the circular arrow button with “x2” printed on it on your key fob.
Here’s how to activate it:
- Make sure your truck is in Park with all doors, hood, and tailgate closed
- Lock your doors using the key fob
- Press the remote start button twice within five seconds
- Look for your parking lights to flash, which confirms it worked
- Your engine will run for 15 minutes, then shut off automatically
To stop it early: Press the remote start button once more.
Important stuff to remember:
- Stay within 328 feet for reliable signal strength
- Buildings and other obstacles can mess with the range
- Remote start won’t work if safety conditions aren’t met (doors unlocked, hood open, etc.)
We’ve noticed that many owners press the button too slowly at first. You really need those two quick presses within that five-second window.
Using the Ram Connect App for Remote Start
The Ram Connect app gives you way more flexibility, especially when you’re beyond that 328-foot range.
Getting it set up:
- Download the Ram Connect app from your app store
- Create an account with your name and email
- Register your vehicle using the VIN (you’ll find it on your windshield or registration)
- The app will check that your vehicle has the right equipment
Getting your Ram Connect trial going:
- Access your Uconnect touchscreen
- Go to Apps > AppMarket > Digital Store
- Scan the QR code to start your trial
Starting your truck through the app:
- Open the Ram Connect app
- Tap “Remote Start” on the main screen
- Pick your preferred run time (10 or 15 minutes)
- Choose extra options (heated seats, heated steering wheel, defroster)
- Confirm the command
The app lets you dial in your cabin environment before you even step outside.
Adjusting Heated Steering and Climate Control Settings
Here’s one of our favorite features: the heated steering wheel and driver heated seat kick in automatically during remote start when temperatures hit 40°F or less.
Setting up your preferences ahead of time:
- Access your Uconnect touchscreen
- Go to Settings > Doors & Locks > Remote Start
- Turn on heated steering wheel activation
- Enable heated seat activation
- Set your preferred defroster options
When you use remote start, these settings you’ve configured will activate on their own. During Prattville’s brutal summer heat, we suggest maxing out your climate control to cooling before you park, so your truck feels great when you get back.
Keeping those headlights off:
Set your headlight switch to “off” (not “auto”) before parking. This stops your headlights from turning on during remote start, which saves battery life.
Troubleshooting When Remote Start Won’t Work
We work on Ram vehicles every day at our Prattville location, and here’s what we see most often:
| Issue | Solution |
| Vehicle not compatible | Check app verification or give us a call |
| Won’t start from fob | Make sure you’re within 328 feet, doors locked, hood and trunk closed |
| Headlights on during start | Set headlight switch to “off” before parking |
| App problems | Double-check correct VIN, update app, activate Ram Connect trial |
| Need to cancel start | Press remote start button once more |
Other things to check:
- Make sure the transmission is in Park
- Check for warning lights on your dashboard (check engine light will block remote start)
- Verify you’ve got enough fuel
- Replace key fob battery if the signal seems weak
- Make sure your phone has active cellular service for app use
If you’ve run through everything and remote start still isn’t cooperating, you might need professional diagnosis. Our service team can figure out whether it’s a vehicle system issue or just a simple setting that needs adjustment.
